    An Observation

    Small things.
    Like,
the way you let the smoke curl out of your mouth
    in a tiny hook-shaped cloud
    before you
    inhale ... exhale.

    or,
the soft curls on your head.

    Lying on my breast,
one arm draped across my stomach,
    you breathe evenly and deeply
standing in the threshold between waking and sleeping.

    Photo Blog: GoodSpot LA

Remember that party I blogged about in honor of that non-profit I also blogged about? Well, it has come and gone, but so poignant was the experience that it's still worth an additional blog in hindsight!

On Wednesday, August 12th, hundreds of people, equal parts intelligent, charitable, and good-looking (come on, this is LA we're talking about!) packed themselves into the notorious Bar Marmont in the name of peace, love, and good music. DJ's mOma and Stimulus spun the night away, all the cool kids wore whistles as symbols of protest against the war in the Congo, and photographers--professional and amateur alike--tried earnestly to capture the night's infectious energy within the lenses of their cameras.

It was a night to remember! If you weren't there, you missed a great time; try to live vicariously through the pictures I've so dutifully attached:

According to Sinclair Bolden, the party's main promoter, this should be a monthly occurrence. That being said, see you in September!

    Better Late Than Never..

    MIA secret show

Sometimes living life is so consuming that you don't have time to actually write about it. (And yes, in case you didn't already gather, that's my excuse for not having updated in 9 days.)

That being said, what have I been up to? Well... living.

I don't know how many times I've already said that I'm happier now than I've been in some time, but since I never get sick of saying it, I'll go ahead and write it again. There is something so electrifying, so mind-altering, so refreshing about knowing that each day you wake up and do what you want in the name of your dreams. For the first time in my life I am forging my own path and creating my own destiny. The journey, while stressful at times, is nothing short of wonderful.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pretending for a second that I'm not often broke and sometimes starving. But the only thing I miss about my corporate life is the $1300+ that was happily deposited into my bank account every other week. For those of you who are still pushing pencils and bound to a desk, that may be hard to comprehend. Just take my word for it.

But enough rambling! The image above was snatched from the LA Weekly blog-- M.I.A had a secret warehouse show in downtown LA, and the lovely and generous DJ PaseRock snagged a couple of tickets for me and my friend Val. Overall, it was OK. M.I.A's set was brilliant in that her music and energy are infectious and phrenetic... but she went on at 1am and played about 4 songs. After 3 hours of listening to 4 different DJs play electro-hiphop-house music, I was hot (there was NO air-conditioning in that place and it was packed from wall to wall!) and I was completely knackered, so I just couldn't get into it. Perhaps if I'd been half as drunk as the rest of the indie-folk, urban outfitters/american apparel, neon-loving crowd, I would have enjoyed it much more...

I'm still unemployed, but every so often, the fruits of my labour are nationally televised. Recognize that chocolate girl? Who else would it be? lol xx

    I'll Drink To That...

    absolut no labelscloseup absolut

Have you seen the new ABSOLUT VODKA bottles??

In June, Absolut Vodka introduced limited edition naked bottles that don't feature the Absolut label or logo-- instead, at the bottom of the bottle you will find a "discreet and easily removed sticker with the campaign manifesto" on it.

The idea? Absolut is sending a "what really matters is what's inside" message to it's consumers, striving to encourage them to look beyond labels and prejudices against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered minorities.

First Vogue Evolution has exploded into my life and now this? I love it!

(You can check out www.absolut.com/nolabel for more information and to get into the cause.)
