Girl, You So Well Spoken!

Consumerism can be defined as "a preoccupation with and an inclination toward the buying of goods that directly satisfy human wants."

Wants, not needs.

I guess the least we could do on this day and in our consumerist society, is buy goods from companies who plan on using a part of the proceeds to donate money into the Global Fund and fight AIDS. Right?

So how do you get involved? You can shop (RED)-- they have a million partners, from Starbucks to Nike to Converse to Apple... you can donate directly to the Global Fund... you can get tested and know your own status... and you can TALK ABOUT THE ISSUES.

You don't have to do it all, but you can start somewhere.

I love how the New York days and nights melt together into a lovely conglomeration of loveliness! Does that even make sense??

Last night was full of reunions and some well-needed quality time with The Actor who seems to skirt beneath the rules I apply to all the other "Him"s. Maybe because he's so agreeable [read: harmless]...?

Today the skies are gray and rain is falling, but the sounds, smell, and feel of the city never disappoint. 

Half a grapefruit and scrambled egg-whites for breakfast [delicious!], now I'm headed to the salon for stage 1 of the shoot-- texturizer! A bit scary, since I'm the girl who rejected relaxers years ago in favour of a mad fro... but everyone has a price, and let me just tell you that the. price. is. right.

New York! 

I'm officially here. About to head out the door and mix and mingle with friends. 

Didn't I tell you my life was always "Touch and Go"?? Just had a girlfriend of mine set me up with a modeling gig... on Tuesday night! Too bad I'll still be in New York...

Last week I had nothing going on, and this week I'm turning jobs down because I'm in New York... you've gotta love it.

Anyway, the night awaits me, the lights are calling me. My room lacks a view, so it only makes sense for me to get out and see them face-to-face, non?

So I booked an amazing, well-paid job in NYC!

I'm flying out this morning at the @sscrack of dawn. I'm absolutely exhausted; who told me it was smart to "Hollywood party" my Friday night away, knowing I had to be at a fashion show prep at 10am on Saturday morning? Then I almost dragged my sorry behind to The Wiltern last night to see Peaches in concert, because exhaustion or not, free Peaches concert tickets are the non-fictional equivalent to Willy Wonka's golden ticket! I may later regret my decision to do the "responsible thing"...

I mentioned I'm absolutely exhausted... did I mention that I'm absolutely excited?? It feels great to simply be working in this industry, but to be paid--and to be paid generously--while working... that feels even better.

Bi-coastal travel, a very satisfying paycheck, and living my dream? Priceless.
