    Something Old, Something New...

No, this does not, as the title may suggest, have anything to do with marriage, but it does have to do with a union of sorts...

A reunion! Lol, corny, I know...

It was so random... after a long night of bar crawling with some friends on the southside, we decided to head back to Oakland to end the night... Not exactly my idea of going out with a bang, but since I was out with the guys, Im pretty sure this was moreso about their desire to troll for the supple and underaged... Anyway, there I was in Boomerangs and I saw him, one of the "him"s from another lifetime entirely. I couldn't recall the last time we'd been friendly or even exchanged a less-than-awkward hello. Yet somehow, I felt wierdly drawn. Ok, so maybe the fact that I was slightly under the influence had much to do with it..?

Anyway, 2am rolled around, and since this is Pittsburgh, that meant the party was over... So I said hi. And he said hi. And it wasn't awkward at all.

Long story short, we ended up spending the majority of the weekend together. It was completely surreal and weird yet, surprisingly, it was absolutely fun. I'd spent so many years marginally despising his memory that I was completely shocked by how easy it felt to just lie in his arms and talk...

We left it open-ended. I don't know quite wat to make of it, but I'm ok with that. :)

    They Say...

That you should maintain a particular diet in accordance to your blood type so that you can be your healthiest, happiest you.

    Peter D'Adamo, ND says...:

    Type A types:

Should basically stick to fruits and vegetables (high carbs / low fat). They have thicker blood than other blood types, a sensitive immune system, and should not consume dairy products, animal fats and meats. They are at a heightened risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.

    Type B types:

Should consume a balanced diet (fruits and vegetables, grains, fish, dairy, meat, but avoid chicken). They have the best chance of bypassing or overcoming everyday types of diseases, including heart disease and cancer.

    Type AB types:

Should consume a mostly vegetarian diet, and only on rare occasions some fish, meat (no chicken), and dairy.

    Type O types:

Should basically stick to a high protein diet (including red meat), low carbs, and enriched with fruits and vegetables. They should limit the intake of wheat germ, whole wheat products, corn, and avoid dairy products and most nuts. Type O types are commonly affected with hypothyroidism, high stomach acid leading to ulcers), and thinner blood with greater resistance to blood clotting.

What say you? Unfounded hype, or life-changing info??

    Bloggery... Preventing Murder Since 2004

The one thing I don't want to have to do, is come to work and fight for my place in the room.

I know that we've come a long way as a society, but there is still a glass ceiling.

I know that as a Black woman I have to do just that much more in general to not look or feel like a person filling a quota.

I know I have a social obligation to represent and yadda yadda yadda...

But honestly, don't you just get tired of carrying the torch sometimes?

I don't want to have to fight every day at work just for my right to sit in the room as an equal.

I don't want to feel like I'm not smart enough, that what I have to say doesn't matter, or that there is always a pink elephant in the room.

Where is this all coming from?

...I was working in a group of colleagues. This is week 6 of my training, so it's also week 6 of group work. Thus far we all have been getting along rather well, minus the occasional inappropriate comment that caused me to dish out an intense side-eye (like the time I told one of my coworkers that I liked his watch, it was a nice and it really caught my eye, and my other coworker said he should put it somewhere else then. [pause]. wtf? put it where?)

...anyway, we were working quietly and I started talking about changing my idea for a halloween costume (note: this was a continuation from our conversation the day before), when the same coworker who made the comment about moving the watch says to me, "You know Jodie, I'm not trying to be an @sshole or anything, but I really don't give a f#$% about what you wanna be for Halloween, I'm trying to get this done!"
    ...
    ....
    .....
    ......
    WHAT?!?!

I had a temporary rage blackout, and I had to count backwards from ten before I responded.

I told him that I'm unsure as to why he thought it was either appropriate or professional for him to address me in such a manner, but assuredly it was NEITHER. If his goal was to ask me to get back on task there were a NUMBER of other ways in which he could have done so and his response was both DISRESPECTFUL and EXTREMELY out of order!

    Then I walked away.

Needless to say, that ruined the rest of my day. Now, while it might seem like a "good, you handled it" situation, my point is this: WHY do we even ever have to get to that point???

I know, I know, WTF right?

    So I had a sh!tty week.

    Last week, I mean.

    That's why I haven't really blogged.

Shitty week, horrid breakout, terrible mood, anticipation of the painter's coming into town...

    You get the point.

All of that sucky girl crap that would put even Mother Theresa in a funk.
I'm convinced that Ghandi was so d@mn peaceful because he didn't have ovaries and all their cousins.

Anyway, you kind of missed a lot. This weekend was eventful, to say the least...

In lue of posting a really, really long and drawn out update, I'm gonna post a series of entries.

Feel free to catch up on the madness!

    xx
